About ShowMeDo

What is ShowMeDo?

Kyran observed that learning-by-watching was a very powerful technique and one that the Internet hadn't exploited (back in 2005). Ian and Kyran teamed up to create a site where knowledgeable people could share their knowledge via video and things have kept on growing since then.

Why screencast tutorials?

Making tutorials using Screencasting is fantastically easy - you can produce a 5 minute tutorial video in just 5 minutes. Often you can do it in one take without any need to edit the result.

Real-world videos on the other hand tend to require several people and are time and effort intensive. In short - screencasting is easier.

With screencasting we can teach people about our hard-won skills in our environment which is dedicated to this task.

History:

  • late 2005 - Idea born out of an earlier idea called BookAnExpert
  • 2006 - ShowMeDo grew, we started to work with members of Python.org
  • 2007 - ShowMeDo becomes funded and Ian works full-time on growing the site

Your hosts:

Ian Ozsvald

Ian (email remove NOSPAM) is a past student of Sussex University and has been applying his knowledge of Artificial Intelligence to real-world industrial problems for the last 9 years.

Currently he works mostly-full-time here on ShowMeDo and can frequently be found in the ShowMeDo Group. Ian has authored many tutorial videos, often creating Python Tutorials.

He also works part-time on physics and A.I. problem at Panalytical at the Sussex Innovation Centre. He also has a personal blog where he talks about life and artificial-intelligence on occasion.

Kyran Dale

Kyran (email remove NOSPAM) is a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Sussex, spending much of his time evolving novel robot controllers. He has authored a set of wxPython Tutorials.

He was also until quite recently probably the best bumble-bee trainer on the planet.

ShowMeDo Services - our second arm:

As of August 2007 we have a second side to our business - ShowMeDo Services provides screencast hosting and creation to private companies.
